Lore & function[]

The homes of the Dwarves are located deep within the mountains of Middle-earth. They are made from solid stone with great care and expertise, with thick walls and durable gates. Dwarven fortresses employ Defender Catapults and Axe Towers to smite enemies who approach the walls. Quite often, additional halls will be constructed to accommodate Guardians who serve as fortress garrisons. To resist long sieges, most fortresses are equipped with siege kegs to provide sustenance to the occupants. When regular attacks are expected, the Dwarves fill large barrels with boiling oil and throw them down chutes which terminate at the base of the fortress. These barrels burst into flame on impact, spraying oil over any assailants. When siege weapons are expected to attack the fortress, the Dwarves employ the greatest of all war machines in Middle-earth: the Mighty Catapult. This Catapult is slow firing and immobile, but has extraordinary range and can inflict catastrophic damage on armies who refuse to come within the range of the axe-throwers. [1]
